Example · Marketing Coordinator

58% of your week as a marketing coordinator is still yours.

AI now handles more campaign production, so teams hire fewer coordinators. Running launches stays with you.

Is marketing coordinator a dying job?

In a typical week at the middle pace, 30% of this work needs your judgment and 28% is work you do using AI. AI could do about 42%. When someone on your team leaves, they don't backfill, and a senior marketer absorbs the work with tooling. That is how the change usually comes, through people leaving and not being replaced.

Your job is not about to disappear. Still, roughly 42% of what currently fills your week is the work that justified hiring a coordinator in the first place, and that is where the risk sits.

There is good news here. The part of the job coordinators most often say they like, deciding what should be said, is the part that gets more valuable. Most of this report is about how to spend more of your week there, starting inside your current job, without asking anyone's permission.

Why some tasks still need a person
Deciding what's worth making at all

This takes knowing what sales is hearing this quarter, what leadership is sensitive about, what flopped last year. None of that is in a document.

Wrangling freelancers and the agency

It takes judgment about whether work is good, and a relationship where someone answers to you.

Fielding ad-hoc sales requests

The value is in translating the request, which means knowing the deal, the objection and the stakeholder. Making the asset is the easy part.

Running webinars end to end

It means coordinating people with competing priorities under a fixed date. That is hard to automate, even if it is not glamorous.

Brand taste and the "does this sound like us" call

This judgment improves with time on the job, and it gets more scarce as AI produces more content.

Good to know

What is hard about this field, and what you can do about it.

The hard truth

Half of new marketing grads work jobs needing no degree.

Most recent marketing grads find work. Landing a role that uses your degree takes a sharper plan.

Why it fits

Why you. You already touch the CRM (customer database), the email platform and the reporting. You're one skill away from owning the systems rather than operating them. That's the shortest distance on this list by a wide margin, and it's the only one you can start proving from your current desk today.

The gap. You need enough SQL, the language for querying databases, to pull data from the CRM or data warehouse yourself, and that is the main gate. You also need attribution modeling, which is how a touch becomes credit, and systems thinking about lifecycle stages, lead routing and data hygiene.

The trade-off. It's further from "figuring out what we should be saying" than product marketing. You'd be trading toward durability and away from the part many coordinators say they like. Give that some thought.

Yes, first. It is what makes "marketing ops" legible to whoever reads your transfer request.

  • Google Analytics 4 CertificationGoogle Skillshop · Free

Yes, while you are already in the data for the attribution work.

  • Marketing Hub Software CertificationHubSpot Academy · Free

Only if your company runs HubSpot. A certification in a stack you do not use adds little to your resume.

The fuller picture

Risks beyond AI: moderateBudget-cycle risk

Marketing headcount, agency and in-house, moves with budget. It is one of the first lines cut in a soft quarter and one of the last restored, and that was true before any of this. For a marketing coordinator, this risk adds to the AI risk rather than outranking it. Watch your company's hiring page as well as your tools.

Where this could be wrong
  • The task percentages are estimates rather than a record of your week. Your own time log corrects this.
  • Saying marketing operations work holds up is a bet. Systems ownership and accountability are hard to automate, but good enough agents on a mature stack could shrink ops too, just later.
  • Your company's specific trajectory matters more than the occupational average, and we know nothing about it.
  • We don't know what you'd do if money weren't a constraint. That may matter more than anything here.

This is an example. Your plan uses your own week.
